Our Solution

Because of our conviction that this type of innovation in food supply will have a positive effect on the long-term sustainability of our food systems, we not only want to help by donating food on a regular and on-demand basis. Rather, we aim to help local communities, through our charitable partners, to manage the production of this alternative yeast-based protein food where conditions allow.

This would generate work and educational opportunities to the communities, would significantly reduce malnutrition and would even position the communities at the front of food innovation!

Feed a Billion with the Power of Yeast

Why yeast?

Nutrient-Rich

Yeast is an excellent source of protein, with a content that can reach up to 50% of its dry weight, in addition to being rich in B vitamins, essential for metabolism and health. This combination of nutrients makes yeast an ideal option for combating malnutrition in vulnerable populations.

Easy to Digest

Yeast is highly digestible and serves as a safe alternative for many children who are allergic to other protein sources, such as peanuts or nuts. Its easy absorption allows nutrients to be utilized efficiently, promoting healthy growth and development.

Decentralized Production

Yeast production can be carried out locally, facilitating a decentralized solution for protein supply. This not only reduces costs and transportation times but also generates employment in communities, strengthening self-sufficiency.

Proven Method

Yeast as a food alternative was established during World War I to feed soldiers in the field. Large companies like Lesaffre and Lallemand, which are now our suppliers, emerged and developed in that context, providing us today with their experience in decentralized yeast production.

Yeast Innovation: A Complete Nutritional Solution Against Malnutrition

This yeast-based Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) contains 500 kcal, with 12.8 g of protein, 30.3 g of lipids, and 45 g of carbohydrates. It provides essential minerals, including 302 mg of calcium, 10.3 mg of iron, 80 mg of magnesium, 343 mg of phosphorus, 1171 mg of potassium, and 165 mg of sodium. The vitamin content includes 0.79 mg of vitamin A, 0.46 mg of vitamin B1, 1.5 mg of vitamin B2, 0.55 mg of vitamin B6, and 1.5 µg of vitamin B12. Additionally, it contains 46 mg of vitamin C, 14 µg of vitamin D, 18.4 mg of vitamin E, and 14.4 µg of vitamin K, along with 4.6 mg of niacin, 2.8 mg of pantothenic acid, 184 µg of folic acid, and 56 µg of biotin.

How does it work?

1) Decentralized Production

Thanks to the production formula developed by INTI and the extensive network of over 300 manufacturing plants from our yeast suppliers, our RUTF supplement can be produced directly in the areas that need it most. This not only ensures more immediate access to the product but also significantly reduces transportation costs.

2) Regional Packaging

The packaging of the RUTF is done collaboratively with local co-packers, allowing for efficient production tailored to the needs of each region. Moreover, by working with co-packers in the same communities where the RUTF is produced, we achieve greater agility in distribution and reduce costs, facilitating immediate access for those who need it most.

3) Distribution Channels

The distribution of the RUTF is carried out through strategic alliances with organizations such as UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, the FAO, etc. These collaborations allow us to deliver the product directly to the communities that need it most. By leveraging the infrastructure of these NGOs, we ensure rapid and efficient access. This way, we maximize the impact of the RUTF in the fight against malnutrition.
